Investments: am I covered if things go wrong?

Transparent about investor protection

We are in this for the long-term with you.

Our goal is to build a lasting relationship and we have done so admirably so far. We have never had a complaint and we do not lose clients.

But, if a disagreement did occur in the future, we are happy to be open and transparent about our complaints handling process, your rights as a consumer and further protection should institutions fail.

  • For any complaint our compliance officer will investigate the matter on an impartial basis, and within a set time frame.
  • If we cannot settle a disagreement in this way you will be made aware of more formal routes open to you. Below we lay out the various measures and bodies available to you.

Financial Ombudsman

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is an independent official body, established by Parliament, for settling disputes between UK-based financial companies and their clients. The FOS is there to provide a free way to seek a fair outcome.

Professional indemnity insurance

Professional indemnity insurance (PII) is liability insurance that covers firms when a third party, like a client, claims to have suffered a loss, usually due to professional negligence.

Fund protection

If you invest in an Open-Ended Investment Company (OEIC) or a unit trust you are protected by a trust structure. Funds are held in your name and protected by a custodian. They hold your securities for safekeeping and are responsible for the safety of your funds.

Platform protection

We often invest your assets into online platforms that allow you 24/7 visibility of your portfolio and transactions. The platform acts as the custodian of these assets and has protections in place should difficulties arise.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme is the UK’s statutory fund of last resort for you. It pays compensation if a financial firm is unable, or likely to be unable, to pay claims against it. FSCS is an independent body set up under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA).

Financial Planners’ Group

If your adviser suffers a serious illness, or worse, we are a member of the Financial Planners Group to ensure that someone is available to step in as a ‘locum’. The Financial Planners Group contains like-minded financial planning businesses, committed to using financial planning to transform people’s lives.

The Callisto App

We use the same level of data encryption and security as banks to ensure that your data is protected on the Callisto app at all times. Using the Callisto app is as safe as using your online banking service.

We don’t store any of your bank or credit card account usernames or passwords. In fact, you simply see a ‘view’ of your banking or credit card accounts: no transactions take place through the app itself.

Where you have a complaint or dispute with us and we are unable to resolve this to your satisfaction then we are obliged to offer you the Financial Ombudsmen Service to help resolve this. Please see the following link for further details: http://financial-ombudsman.org.uk
